Origami Tips

Before beginning your origami adventure, there are a few things to keep in mind. Using these tips will help you have a more enjoyable experience with origami and keep frustration at bay.

  1. Choose suitable paper and cut to required form and size.
  2. Fold paper cleanly and carefully, especially at the small points of corners.
  3. Work on a hard surface so that all folds and creases can be executed with precision.
  4. Precision in fold and creases is achieved by moving your thumbnail sharply along all folds and creases. This makes later steps much easier.
  5. The greater the exactness of a fold, the more beautiful the finished work.
  6. Follow each step carefully and in the correct order given.
  7. DO NOT SKIP STEPS! This is very important and crucial to eliminating frustration later on.
  8. Pay attention to all instructions, such as direction of fold, how a form is folded together, if it is a fold or a crease, etc.
  9. If origami is new to you, get experienced by practicing the basic forms. These are the building blocks of all origami, and learning them will help you greatly in future folding.
  10. Have fun! Origami should be relaxing and fun. If you find yourself getting frustrated, return to these tips and make sure you're following all instructions and your folds are clean.

The goal is to have fun. If you need to, take a break and come back to it later!
