CONSTRUCTION
Ukuleles are typically made up of wood, although variants have been constructed using plastic and other materials. The quality of the wood depends on the price of the ukulele, where cheaper models are usually constructed of ply or laminate wood with a soundboard made of acoustically sound wood such as spruce, and more expensive models are generally made up of more expensive hardwoods such as Mahogany or Rosewood.
The typical shape of a ukulele is a standard figure-eight shape, similar to the acoustic guitar. The strings are usually made up of nylon with a set of four per instrument being the standard; however, ukuleles can also be made with six or eight strings, with each extra string being in accordance of one of the main four strings.
